Dragons in the Library

For thousands of years, dragons have appeared in art, science, and mythology. Across cultures, they capture the imagination and invoke a sense of wonder. Artists and writers portray dragons in many ways—from fearsome, fire-breathing creatures with poisonous fangs to magical or beautiful beings that symbolize protection and spiritual power. Beneath these dragons’ cultural and physical differences, our shared fascination with these magical creatures creates a common ground we can celebrate.

Dragons in the Library, curated by April Helena and Michele Wilbanks, is on display in the Smathers Library’s 2nd floor exhibit gallery and is open to the public during normal building hours from May 18th-August 14th, 2026.
