Friday, February 20 | 5:00 – 6:30 pm | Smathers Room 100

First-Wave Feminism and Women’s Civil and Political Rights in South America analyzes the context, process and content of the reform of married women’s property rights in seven Spanish-speaking South American countries between 1900 and the early 1950s. It highlights the proposals of feminists and their organizations for reform of the marital regime and how this demand interacted with that for women’s suffrage, shaping their strategies as well as what was attained.
