The following collections in the Special and Area Studies Department have been recently processed, expanded or revised at the University of Florida.

Joe Browder Papers, 1950-2010

Research reports, correspondence, memoranda, campaign material, and ephemera from Joe Browder, an American environmental activist who spearheaded ongoing efforts to save the Florida Everglades. His work helped establish the Biscayne National Park in 1968, and Big Cypress National Preserve in 1974. Browder successfully lobbied the Nixon administration to halt construction on a project to build a new Miami International Airport, in what is now part of the National Park system in the Everglades.

Lastinger Center for Learning at the University of Florida Records, 1996-2022

Collection contains newspaper clippings, press releases, reports, publications, budgets, presentations, contract agreements, photographs, and oral histories detailing the work of the Lastinger Center for Learning at the University of Florida.

Tikwah Mining Corporation Photograph Albums, 1946-1949 (Bulk: 1948-1949)

Two photograph albums of the Tikwah goldmine in British Guiana documenting the region as well as the mining camp and its operations.

University of Florida IFAS Extension Records, 1910-2014 (significantly expanded and newly revised finding aid)

Series 93 contains the administrative records of the University of Florida Dean for Extension (previously designated Director of Extension), Florida Cooperative Extension Service Records, and Family Resources (Home Demonstration and 4-H) Records, and publications documenting major trends in the Florida Cooperative Extension Service’s role as a disseminator of information to the agricultural communities of Florida.

Joe and Dorothy Hartzer-Corcoran Correspondence, 1943-1979

Correspondence of the Hartzer-Corcoran family including letters and postcards that describe life in North Central Florida.

Rufus Nims Architectural Drawings, 1950-2006 (significantly expanded and newly revised finding aid)

Architectural drawings created by South Florida architect Rufus Nims. These include plans for residences and buildings in Florida, Louisiana, New York, Costa Rica, and several countries in the Caribbean. The collection also includes motel and hotel designs for Howard Johnson, Marriott, and other corporations. Also, included is AV material concerning Nim’s projects.

D. Robert “Bob” Graham Political Papers, 1950-2010 (Bulk: 1966-2004) (significantly expanded and newly revised finding aid)

Records from the political career of D. Robert “Bob” Graham documenting his tenure as a Florida legislator, 1966-1978, and a United States Senator, 1987-2005. The collection also contains Graham’s private papers and records from several commissions that Graham served on and also chronicles Graham’s Workday experiences. Among the many record types, the collection contains correspondence, memoranda, press releases, speeches, articles, schedules and calendars, trip files, campaign materials, photographs and audiovisual materials. Major topics include education, environmental conservation, Florida economics, the savings and loan crisis, Everglades restoration, Hurricane Andrew, foreign affairs, and health care.

Helen Holton Anderson Papers, 1912-1989

The family papers of Helen Holton Anderson date from 1913 to 1989. The collection contains photographs of Puerto Rico from 1936-1937, additional family photos, Helen Anderson’s memories of her father’s work for the Flagler Hotel system, and documents related to the estate of Helen’s sister, Julia C. Holton. Additional items include a booklet and typescripts about Tom Anderson’s career in radio broadcasting in the Jacksonville, Florida area, a speech attributed to Julia C. Holton about a trip to Cuba before the Cuban Revolution, and Henry G. Anderson’s school journal from 1913.
