This month’s blog by Dan Reboussin, African Studies curator, looks inside a recently-accessioned collection of comics and proofs produced in Kinshasa in the 1990s by the Congolese illustrator Papa Mfumu’Eto “le Premier.” Along with other international comic books in our collections, these materials give a ground-level view of how graphic artists were creating local stories outside of the traditional comic book canon.
